More about lawn turf in Urmston
Fresh lawn turf cut to order for Urmston gardens, supplied on its own to lay yourself or supplied and laid for you. It is a next-day run to M41 once it is booked, so the turf goes down green rather than drying out in transit. It is one turf at one price: premium lawn turf at £4 per square metre, hard-wearing enough for a family lawn and fine enough for a showpiece front garden. Add around 5% to your measurements for cuts.
The 1930s semis across Davyhulme and Flixton usually have room for a proper lawn, and returfing a worn-out old one is one of our most common Urmston jobs. On the newer estates it pays to sort the ground first: strip the thin builders soil, get a bed of decent topsoil down, then lay the turf, or the new lawn thins out the same way the old one did. Send the length and width and we will work out the rolls and a price.
We deliver across Urmston and the surrounding area: Flixton, Davyhulme, Woodsend, Lostock and beyond (M41).
How soon can I get turf in Urmston?
Turf is cut to order the day before, so once your order is booked it usually reaches Urmston the next day, fresh off the field. For a supply-and-lay job we set a laying date and cut the turf to land that morning, so none of it sits around.
Will turf take in a shaded Urmston garden?
Plenty of gardens around Flixton and Woodsend are north-facing or sit under trees, and heavy shade is hard on any lawn. We supply one premium lawn turf and nothing shade-specific, so if your garden is heavily shaded, talk to us before you order and we will give you an honest answer on whether turf is the right call.
Can I just buy turf and lay it myself?
Yes. We supply turf cut to order for you to take delivery of and lay yourself. Because it is cut fresh it needs laying within about a day, so have the ground prepared and ready before it arrives: dug over, levelled, raked to a fine tilth and firmed. If you want the ground doing too, that is what the supplied-and-laid option is for.
What does supplied and laid mean?
It means the whole job is handled, not just the turf. Barrow Landscaping comes out and measures, prepares the ground properly, strips any old lawn, levels it and brings in topsoil where it is needed, then lays fresh turf the day it is cut. You get a finished lawn rather than a pallet of turf to deal with. It is the option most people go for once they see the price difference against buying materials and hiring a rotavator.
When is the best time to lay turf?
Spring and autumn are ideal, when the ground is warm and there is usually enough rain to help it root. Turf can go down almost all year as long as the ground is not frozen or waterlogged. Summer laying is fine but needs a strict watering routine while it establishes. We will be honest about timing when you enquire.
