Fresh cut-to-order premium lawn turf at £4 per square metre, delivered across Leigh ready to lay, or supplied and laid through Barrow Landscaping on properly prepared ground.

More about lawn turf in Tyldesley

New lawns on the Tyldesley estates fail for one reason: the turf goes straight onto thin builders soil over rubble. Around Mosley Common and the newer parts of Astley you want a good depth of screened topsoil down first, then fresh lawn turf on top. Our premium lawn turf is £4 per m2, all cut to order and next-day, and it is worth ordering about 5% extra to cover the cuts. If your plot is heavily shaded by trees, ask us before ordering and we will tell you straight whether it will take.

Returfing is the other half of it. Plenty of the terraces and semis around the old town centre, Hindsford and Shakerley have a tired square of lawn gone to moss and bare patches. We cut turf fresh so it goes down green, and the stripping, levelling and laying can all be done for you if you would rather not do the graft. Send the size and we will price the turf supplied and laid.

We deliver across Tyldesley and the surrounding area: Astley, Shakerley, Hindsford, Mosley Common and beyond (M29).

Do I need topsoil before laying turf on a Tyldesley new-build?

On most of the new estates, yes. The builders soil is thin and sits on rubble, so a fresh depth of screened topsoil gives the roots something to get into. We can supply both together, turf and topsoil, on the one delivery.

Can you lay a new lawn for me in Tyldesley?

We can. As well as supplying turf cut to order, we offer full returfing across Tyldesley, Astley and Mosley Common through Barrow Landscaping: strip the old lawn, prep the ground and lay the new one. Send the rough size for a supplied-and-laid quote.

Can I just buy turf and lay it myself?

Yes. We supply turf cut to order for you to take delivery of and lay yourself. Because it is cut fresh it needs laying within about a day, so have the ground prepared and ready before it arrives: dug over, levelled, raked to a fine tilth and firmed. If you want the ground doing too, that is what the supplied-and-laid option is for.

What does supplied and laid mean?

It means the whole job is handled, not just the turf. Barrow Landscaping comes out and measures, prepares the ground properly, strips any old lawn, levels it and brings in topsoil where it is needed, then lays fresh turf the day it is cut. You get a finished lawn rather than a pallet of turf to deal with. It is the option most people go for once they see the price difference against buying materials and hiring a rotavator.

When is the best time to lay turf?

Spring and autumn are ideal, when the ground is warm and there is usually enough rain to help it root. Turf can go down almost all year as long as the ground is not frozen or waterlogged. Summer laying is fine but needs a strict watering routine while it establishes. We will be honest about timing when you enquire.
