More about lawn turf in Stockport

New lawns go down well in Stockport because so many of the gardens are a decent size. The big semis in Heaton Moor and the detached houses round Davenport often have tired old lawns gone to moss under mature trees, and a fresh returf sorts them. Every roll of our premium lawn turf is cut fresh to order and comes next-day, so it goes down green rather than sitting rolled up in the sun. If a garden sits in heavy shade for most of the day, ask us before ordering and we will give you a straight answer on whether turf will take.

Because Stockport is built on the hills, plenty of gardens slope or step down in terraces, and a sloped lawn needs the ground prepping properly or the turf slides and the seams open up. Take the supply and lay option and the returfing is handled from start to finish: killing off the old grass, levelling, laying the new turf and firming the joints. If you would sooner do it yourself we will just drop the rolls cut to your square meterage at £4 per m2, with about 5% extra added for cuts.

We deliver across Stockport and the surrounding area: Heaton Moor, Reddish, Edgeley, Cheadle Heath, Davenport and beyond (SK1, SK3, SK4, SK5).

How quickly can I get turf delivered in Stockport?

Turf is cut to order the day it leaves the field, so we work to next-day once your order is in. It is not something to leave sitting around, so let us know the day you want to lay and we will have it in Stockport fresh for the job.

Can you turf a sloped garden in Heaton Moor or Davenport?

Yes. A lot of Stockport gardens run downhill and need the ground cut and firmed so the turf beds in without slipping. On a supply and lay job the sloped and terraced lawns get prepped properly before the turf goes down, or we can supply the turf and leave the prep to you. Either way it is cut fresh and delivered next-day.

Can I just buy turf and lay it myself?

Yes. We supply turf cut to order for you to take delivery of and lay yourself. Because it is cut fresh it needs laying within about a day, so have the ground prepared and ready before it arrives: dug over, levelled, raked to a fine tilth and firmed. If you want the ground doing too, that is what the supplied-and-laid option is for.

What does supplied and laid mean?

It means the whole job is handled, not just the turf. Barrow Landscaping comes out and measures, prepares the ground properly, strips any old lawn, levels it and brings in topsoil where it is needed, then lays fresh turf the day it is cut. You get a finished lawn rather than a pallet of turf to deal with. It is the option most people go for once they see the price difference against buying materials and hiring a rotavator.

When is the best time to lay turf?

Spring and autumn are ideal, when the ground is warm and there is usually enough rain to help it root. Turf can go down almost all year as long as the ground is not frozen or waterlogged. Summer laying is fine but needs a strict watering routine while it establishes. We will be honest about timing when you enquire.
