More about lawn turf in Leigh
Returfing is one of our most common Leigh jobs, from a tired back lawn in Bedford to a fresh strip of green on a new build off Plank Lane. We cut premium lawn turf to order at £4 a square metre and run it out next-day, so it goes down fresh rather than sitting rolled up losing its colour. It is a hard-wearing sward that takes kids and dogs, and if your plot is north-facing or heavily shaded, like some of the older terraced streets, ask us before you order and we will give you a straight answer on whether turf will take.
Before any new lawn goes down the ground needs to be right, and a lot of Leigh gardens have not much decent soil left under the surface. On the newer Pennington and Westleigh estates that often means a layer of made-up ground over builders rubble, so we will get a bed of screened topsoil down first. If you would rather leave the graft, Barrow Landscaping handles turf supplied and laid across Leigh, levels and all.
We deliver across Leigh and the surrounding area: Bedford, Pennington, Westleigh, Plank Lane, Higher Folds and beyond (WN7).
Do you deliver turf to Leigh next-day?
Turf is cut to order the day it goes out, so tell us the day before and we will have it on the van for Leigh next-day. That way it lands fresh and can be laid straight off the pallet rather than drying out in the roll.
How much turf do I need for a Leigh back garden?
Measure the length by the width in metres and that gives your square metreage, as we sell turf per m2. If you are not sure, send us the rough size of the plot in Bedford or Higher Folds and we will work out the rolls and the price.
Can I just buy turf and lay it myself?
Yes. We supply turf cut to order for you to take delivery of and lay yourself. Because it is cut fresh it needs laying within about a day, so have the ground prepared and ready before it arrives: dug over, levelled, raked to a fine tilth and firmed. If you want the ground doing too, that is what the supplied-and-laid option is for.
What does supplied and laid mean?
It means the whole job is handled, not just the turf. Barrow Landscaping comes out and measures, prepares the ground properly, strips any old lawn, levels it and brings in topsoil where it is needed, then lays fresh turf the day it is cut. You get a finished lawn rather than a pallet of turf to deal with. It is the option most people go for once they see the price difference against buying materials and hiring a rotavator.
When is the best time to lay turf?
Spring and autumn are ideal, when the ground is warm and there is usually enough rain to help it root. Turf can go down almost all year as long as the ground is not frozen or waterlogged. Summer laying is fine but needs a strict watering routine while it establishes. We will be honest about timing when you enquire.
