More about lawn turf in Irlam

Cut-to-order premium lawn turf for Irlam gardens at £4 a square metre, supplied loose for you to lay or supplied and laid, with Barrow Landscaping doing the laying. It is cut the day before and comes next-day, so it goes down fresh instead of drying out on a pallet. Handy when you are returfing a worn family lawn on a Higher Irlam semi.

Because a good chunk of Irlam sits on soft mossland ground, and the newer estates are laid over rubble, the base wants sorting first on a supply and lay job. That means firming it up and bringing in topsoil where needed, so the new lawn roots into something proper. If a plot in the terraces is north-facing or heavily shaded, ask us before you order and we will give you a straight answer on whether turf is the right call.

We deliver across Irlam and the surrounding area: Cadishead, Higher Irlam, Fairhills and beyond (M44).

How quickly can you lay a new lawn in Irlam?

Turf is cut to order and delivered next-day, so most Irlam jobs go in within a few days of the site visit, weather allowing. The lawn is laid fresh the day after it is lifted from the field, not left sitting rolled up.

Is the mossy soil in Irlam a problem for new turf?

It can be. Soft peaty mossland ground holds water and sinks, so we usually firm it up and lay a decent depth of topsoil first. Get that right and the returfing lasts, rather than going patchy in the first dry spell.

Can I just buy turf and lay it myself?

Yes. We supply turf cut to order for you to take delivery of and lay yourself. Because it is cut fresh it needs laying within about a day, so have the ground prepared and ready before it arrives: dug over, levelled, raked to a fine tilth and firmed. If you want the ground doing too, that is what the supplied-and-laid option is for.

What does supplied and laid mean?

It means the whole job is handled, not just the turf. Barrow Landscaping comes out and measures, prepares the ground properly, strips any old lawn, levels it and brings in topsoil where it is needed, then lays fresh turf the day it is cut. You get a finished lawn rather than a pallet of turf to deal with. It is the option most people go for once they see the price difference against buying materials and hiring a rotavator.

When is the best time to lay turf?

Spring and autumn are ideal, when the ground is warm and there is usually enough rain to help it root. Turf can go down almost all year as long as the ground is not frozen or waterlogged. Summer laying is fine but needs a strict watering routine while it establishes. We will be honest about timing when you enquire.
