Topsoil in Oldham

Oldham soil is often thin and full of stone once you dig past the top few inches, and the newer estates around Failsworth and Hollinwood are worse, with turf laid straight over builders rubble that was never going to grow much. Yes. A clean screened topsoil laid at around 100mm is exactly what turf wants to root into. Rake it to a fine, level finish and firm it before the turf goes down. If the ground underneath is heavy clay or rubble, going a touch deeper helps drainage and root run.
