Topsoil in Oldham

Good topsoil is where a healthy garden starts. We supply one grade: screened topsoil at £70 per bulk bag, delivered across Leigh and Greater Manchester.

More about topsoil in Oldham

Oldham soil is often thin and full of stone once you dig past the top few inches, and the newer estates around Failsworth and Hollinwood are worse, with turf laid straight over builders rubble that was never going to grow much. Screened topsoil sorts both, giving you a clean, even depth for a new lawn or raised beds. It comes in bulk bags at £70 each, about 0.7m3 a bag, covering roughly 7 square metres at 100mm.

One soil does the lot. Screened topsoil is the everyday garden soil for lawns, borders and raised beds, and it handles levelling and building ground up just as well. On a Chadderton drive we drop the bags where the wagon can reach, and for terraces with no access we leave bulk bag topsoil kerbside. We can quote it delivered and spread too if you would rather not barrow it.

We deliver across Oldham and the surrounding area: Chadderton, Hollinwood, Werneth, Failsworth and beyond (OL1, OL4, OL8, OL9).

How much topsoil do I need for a new-build garden in Failsworth?

For a fresh lawn over made-up ground, work on about 100mm of screened topsoil, which is roughly one bulk bag to 7 square metres. Send us the rough size of the plot and we will tell you how many bulk bags it works out at.

What is the difference between screened and unscreened topsoil?

Screened topsoil is passed through a mesh that removes stones, root and lumps, so it is clean and easy to work, and it is the right choice for lawns, beds and anything you are planting into. Unscreened topsoil is cheaper but full of whatever came off site, and it is not a seed bed. Ours is screened, so what arrives is ready to use.

Is screened topsoil good enough for a new lawn?

Yes. A clean screened topsoil laid at around 100mm is exactly what turf wants to root into. Rake it to a fine, level finish and firm it before the turf goes down. If the ground underneath is heavy clay or rubble, going a touch deeper helps drainage and root run.

How much does a bulk bag of topsoil cost?

A bulk bag of our screened topsoil is £70, plus delivery from £20, worked out from your postcode and the size of the order. Put your postcode into the delivery checker and it confirms the exact figure before you order.
